Most Kava powder on the market today consists of both the root and plant, which is a safety issue since the aerial or upper part of the plant is known to cause health risks. However, Island Kava Hawaiian contains no aerial part of the plant and is lateral root only, with no crown root. While crown root makes up 80% of the root system in the Kava plant, it contains very little useful alkaloids, which is why it is removed from this Hawaiian Kava. Unlike Island Kava's kava, most root kava available today is made of whole root, which is 80% of no use.
